Bauhinia Variegata - Hong Kong Orchid Tree is a splendid flowering tree that grows to a height of 35 feet tall and 20 - 30 feet wide. It produces masses of pinkish purple orchid flowers that carry a fragrance that is loved by Gardeners. Hummingbirds also love the flowers and are drawn to them. Although now cultivated in many areas, it originated in Hong Kong in 1880 and apparently all of the cultivated trees derive from one cultivated at the Hong Kong Botanical Gardens and widely planted in Hong Kong starting in 1914. The Bauhinia double-lobed leaf is similar in shape to a heart or a butterfly, or a camel's footprint - hence the common name camel's foot. In Hong Kong the leaf is known as the "clever leaf" (聰明葉) and is regarded as a symbol of wisdom. Some people use the leaves to make bookmarks in the hope that they will bring them good luck in their studies.

I germinated 3 and all 3 are growing. I soaked them overnight in the solution I use and give tips with order. I put in a warm paper towel and then after I cover the seed in the paper towel, I place itin a zip lock baggie and check every 2 days until I see the seed coming to life. When it is germinated, I pot it up.
I urge anyone buying seed to do their homework on germination, I have not raised and cannot raise many of these plants as I am sub-tropics here in St Augustine, Florida. All seed are NOT alike! There are so many different factors in germination and not doing a search is throwing your money away. I want everyone to be successful when growing your flowers from seed it is the most rewarding experience in Gardening and you can do it, if you give the seed what it needs to grow. I always check 3 sites of info to choose how I will go about it. It is not hard to do, if you do it right!
SEED GERMINATION TIP!!!!!!!
