Dianthus Alwoodii Alpinus- Alwood pink. Common name, Carnation. In the 1920’s Montague Alwood created this tough little hybrid. Genus name comes from the Greek words dios meaning divine and anthos meaning flower. The perennial low maintenance plant produces showy pink flowers with a bright red center and they also have a great fragrance to them. The plant will grow to 6-12 inches tall and 12-15 inches wide. They have diverse uses and can be grown in rock gardens, containers, and used as borders, and can be cut for floral arrangements. They thrive well in hot dry weather in soil with
adequate drainage. These cuties self sow and will spread if desired. If not, then deadhead and they will be in constant bloom throughout the summer. Do not love the heat of the deep south.

I urge anyone buying seed to do their homework on germination, I have not raised and cannot raise many of these plants as I am sub-tropics here in St Augustine, Florida. All seed are NOT alike! There are so many different factors in germination and not doing a search is throwing your money away. I want everyone to be successful when growing your flowers from seed it is the most rewarding experience in Gardening and you can do it, if you give the seed what it needs to grow. I always check 3 sites of info to choose how I will go about it. It is not hard to do, if you do it right!
