Helianthus annuus – Giant Sungold will make a bold statement in any garden! Also commonly known as the Common Sunflower, it is a well-branched, fast-growing annual that has striking flowers with oblong to lanceolate leaves. It will bring you blooms that are fluffy and huge with fully-doubled flowers that are 6 – 10 inches across and resemble golden yellow pompoms. They grow best in full sun in moist but well-drained soils that are humus-rich and moderately fertile, and will grow between 5 – 6 feet tall! These friendly-looking blooms will attract pollinators to your gardens such as butterflies, bees, and birds while being resistant to deer and rabbits. They make great cut flowers, do well in beds and borders, and also in cottage gardens. I urge anyone buying seed to do their homework on germination, I have not raised and cannot raise many of these plants as I am sub-tropics here in St Augustine, Florida. All seed are NOT alike! There are so many different factors in germination and not doing a search is throwing your money away. I want everyone to be successful when growing your flowers from seed it is the most rewarding experience in Gardening and you can do it, if you give the seed what it needs to grow. I always check 3 sites of info to choose how I will go about it. It is not hard to do, if you do it right!
