Salvia Columbariae also commonly known as Chia, Chia Sage, Golden Chia, or Desert Chia, is an annual plant that is part of the Mint family. It has stem hairs that are generally pretty short and sparse. The oblong to ovate leaves form a basal rosette with flower spikes rising above. The flower colors range from a pale – bright blue or is purple tipped. This was once an important food for Native Americans. The seeds of this plant are edible. They can be eaten as grain, whole or ground. If they are soaked in water, the seeds will absorb moisture, and then transform into a gelatinous coating which then creates a chia gel, this was consumed by indigenous people for energy. It has a blooming season that ranges from March to June, grows best in full sun with well-draining soil and will grow up to 1.5 feet tall. This slightly fragrant plant will attract pollinators to your garden such as Hummingbirds, Butterflies, Bees, and Birds while being resistant to Deer and Rabbits. It is also native to quite a few states such as California, Nevada, Utah, Arizona, and New Mexico.

There are so many different factors in germination and not doing a search is throwing your money away. I want everyone to be successful when growing your flowers from seed it is the most rewarding experience in Gardening and you can do it, if you give the seed what it needs to grow. I always check 3 sites of info to choose how I will go about it. It is not hard to do, if you do it right!
