Scabiosa Atropurpurea - Black Beauty. Common names: morningbride, drumstick flower. Black beauty is the wildly intense drama queen of the flower kingdom. Blooming from June to October, this fragrant deep deep crimson to blackish hue makes it stand out in a garden or be an eye catcher in a bouquet. Important to remember when planting outdoors they require a plant support to ensure the best growth for an abundant yield and promote a straight strong stalk. Attracts Hummingbirds, Butterflies, Bees along with other beneficial insects, which is a bonus for the garden. If you want to use them for fresh, cut or dried flowers, harvest when seed heads are light green with dark bronze edges and star-shaped centers are just turning black. Common uses for these flowers are for fresh, cut, dried flowers, bouquets, back of beds and borders. They are cold tolerant. Scabiosas have been around for Centuries and have been used in Gardens around the World. I read the name Scabiosa refers to the Latin word "scabius", meaning itch, referring to the use of the plant's leaves to treat skin troubles.

I urge anyone buying seed to do their homework on germination, I have not raised and cannot raise many of these plants as I am sub-tropics here in St Augustine, Florida. All seed are NOT alike!  There are so many different factors in germination and not doing a search is throwing your money away. I want everyone to be successful when growing your flowers from seed it is the most rewarding experience in Gardening and you can do it, if you give the seed what it needs to grow. I always check 3 sites of info to choose how I will go about it. It is not hard to do, if you do it right!
