Asclepias Curassavica or Tropical Milkweed is a plant that is vital for Monarch Butterflies, it is a host plant (meaning they drink nectar from it) but it is also a larval plant, meaning they lay their eggs on it. We can never have enough of these plants and I always advise others to grow a few to help Nature. Seeing the caterpillars is quite something. Many people create habitats to protect them and release them after they come out of their chrysalis.
Do you have room for a few vertical plants ? If the answer is YES, you can help the Monarch Butterflies since milkweed is their ONLY source of sustenance. The caterpillars will eat the milkweed as they grow, and after they munch, the plant will grow back quickly to support other babies. You only have to plant the seed and watch it grow. The Monarch Butterflies will do the rest, and if you notice nothing left but a stem, that is GOOD! They will find a place to hang out until it is time to have their coming out party!
Awesome Blossom Plants wants to encourage Gardeners to add a few to their garden, in the back where you don’t see them even works, its for the butterflies, to be honest. So wherever you do not mind growing them, plant them.

Milkweed is easy to grow so all new flower lovers can grow them.
Tropical Milkweed blooms in reds and oranges and blooms continuously through Spring and Summer. Tropical Milkweed is a major staple plant for a Butterfly Garden, it is in the top ten of plants to grow to attract Butterflies and is capable of growing where other plants could not, it is drought tolerant and needs little care to thrive. This plant is especially vital for the Monarch Butterflies. You will be pleasantly surprised at how quickly the Monarchs can find a Milkweed plant. Milkweed is not only their Host plant, it is also their Larval plant. By that I mean that the Monarchs will feed from the nectar in the blooms but they will also lay their eggs on the undersides of the leaves. By planting what you can, you will be assisting them in their population, which is down dramatically from where it should be.When you plant it and you do get the baby catepillars, do not fret when they eat the leaves off the plant. Nature replaces the leaves quite quickly, and then it starts all over again. If you plant it they will come!!!! There is nothing more delightful than strolling through your yard and seeing Butterflies flitting there, and there, and over there!
